Pride: the I, ME, MYSELF Attitude

*Pride = living as if you don't need God*

->Pride is why Christians refuse to submit to God's leading.
->Pride is why people don't forgive.
->Pride is why relationships fall apart.
->Pride is why families are ruined.
->Pride is why churches split.
->Pride is why our nation has strayed so far from God.
*Pride is when we think we can handle things on our own; we don't need anyone else's help or advice.*

God's word says:

The pride of your heart has deceived you,
You who dwell in the clefts of the rock,
Whose habitation is high;
You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’
Though you ascend
as high as the eagle,
And though you set your nest among the stars,
From there I will bring you down,” says the LORD. (Obadiah 3,4)

God HATES pride.

But He LOVES humility.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise. (Psalm 51:17)

He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

Enough of a challenge for today?

  1. Great post, Elizabeth! It is an honor to be the first commentor on your blog.

    I've been doing my own study on pride lately, realizing that it has been a much bigger problem in my life than I realized (first symptom of pride: we are self deceived and thereby unable to recognize it!) We are born with pride in our hearts and the root of all sin is pride. James 4:6 tells us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. That means that the person who is humble is the one who draws God's attention, thereby attracting His grace. Contrary to popular belief, God does not help those who help themselves, rather He helps those who HUMBLE themselves! In order to become humble we must honestly assess ourselves in the light of God's holiness and our own sinfulness, daily relying on Him to aid us in dying to self and living for Him.
    This is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word. Isaiah 66:2
